I still remember watching my very first Aikido class over 15 years ago. I was instantly struck by its effortless beauty, the way it flowed, and fascinated by the subtle complexity behind each movement. I had never even heard of Aikido until I met Dunken Sensei, who encouraged me to give it a try.
At first, I was intimidated. I wasn’t naturally athletic, and the flips and rolls looked daunting. But the friendly, easy-going atmosphere of the dojo quickly put me at ease. Unlike other martial arts I’d tried, there was no rigid hierarchy or endless ceremony. Instead, I found an inclusive, relaxed space where I could learn at my own pace.
As a woman, I soon realised how empowering Aikido could be. Its techniques don’t rely on size or strength, they teach you how to redirect energy, to stay calm and centred under pressure. Aikido has helped me step outside my comfort zone, face social anxiety, and handle stressful situations with more confidence and grace.
For me, Aikido is much more than a system of self-defence. It’s a way of understanding yourself, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I love that it challenges both body and mind. Each class feels like a puzzle to solve, a chance to refine movement and deepen awareness. Over time, I’ve grown stronger, more flexible, and more confident, both on and off the mat.
As a musician by trade, I also connect deeply with the creative and expressive side of Aikido. The flowing movements, timing, and sensitivity between partners often remind me of playing music, it’s about harmony, rhythm, and connection.
In 2024, I was awarded the rank of nidan (second-degree black belt). When I first started, I never imagined I’d make it that far, but Aikido has become a lifelong journey I’m truly grateful for.
I love sharing what I’ve learned and helping others discover the joy and empowerment that come with training. Working with beginners is especially rewarding, I find I learn as much from teaching as I do from practising. Everyone’s path is unique, and I enjoy supporting people as they find their own rhythm and confidence through Aikido.

I also offer private one-on-one sessions for those who prefer a more personal approach. These can include Aikido training as well as general fitness, strength, and flexibility work, always tailored to your needs and pace.
